President Muhammadu Buhari at the 6th EU-AFRICA summit in Brussels, Belgium

To mark the participation of Nigeria at the ongoing 6th EU-AFRICA summit in Brussels, Belgium,  President Muhammadu Buhari today,  Thursday penned an opinion article to coincide with the opening of the meeting in the Politico, an online/offline magazine which is the biggest/ most influential publication for the EU/ in Brussels. It is hereunder reproduced.  IT’S TIME FOR A NEW ECONOMIC DEAL BETWEEN THE EU AND AFRICA -         The Economic Relationship Between the Two Continent’s Must Be Recalibrated to Focus on Job Creation.   BY MUHAMMADU BUHARI When it comes to the relationship between the European Union and Africa, unfair arrangements have long been skated over for lack of alternatives.  Increasingly unsustainable, these one-sided deals have provoked calls from both sides of the Mediterranean for a partnership of equals. At the EU-Africa Summit, leaders from across my continent will gather with their European counterparts to transform such rhetoric into substance.   The EU is curren

ASUU STRIKE: ASUU to go on 1 month warning strike

A reliable source at the just concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has confided that the union resolved to embark on one-month “comprehensive and total” strike to compel the Nigerian government to acede its requests. Recall that the union has been agitating for a number of demands including the payment of Earned Academic Allowance, revitalization fund, the replacement of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, IPPIS, with the University Transparency and Accountability System UTAS, among others.

What may happen if ASUU should go for another strike

THE CURRENT SITUATION OF STUDENTS OF THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITY. So many students are confuse on what will happen if the Academic staff union of Universities (ASUU) embarks on another strike. Below I will list some of the traps students will fall in when ASUU decide to go on another strike. 1. AFFECTING THE STUDENTS PSYCHOLOGY You see most students are eager to get done with their degree program, most of them know that there may not be a jobs available when they are done with their degree program yet they strive day and night to see that they make their parents proud.   Most of the students do not even like the courses they study but they still try to earn the degree since it has become a MUST in the Nigerian society. So, another strike may discourage this tudents and lower morale about school. 2. PEER PRESSURE You see on the contrary students of the same age and capabilities from the private Universities or abroad, sometimes even less talented as the ones in public Universities

Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to hold the Mus'haf

Praise be to Allaah It is permissible for a menstruating woman to recite Qur’an according to the more correct scholarly opinion, especially if she needs to do that for fear of forgetting (what she had memorised), or to study for a test, or to seek healing thereby, on condition that she does not touch the Mus'haf (A Qur'an with Arabic text only), because no one should touch it except one who is in a state of purity.  If she needs to read from the Mus'haf, she may touch it with a barrier, such as a piece of clean cloth or a handkerchief or gloves and the like. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:  It is obvious that women used to menstruate at the time of the Messenger of Allah (SalAllaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and he did not forbid them to recite Qur’aan. He also did not forbid them to recite dhikr (remembrance of Allah) or du‘a (supplication). In fact he instructed the menstruating women to go out on the day of Eid and recite takbeer with the

How to dispose your teeth in islam

Many people wonder what to do with their teeth when they have them removed or when they lose a tooth. Many have heard stories of tooth fairies coming to pick up your tooth beneath your pillows and replace it with a gift right, these are just stories for kids. In Islam, when a fellow lose a tooth or have two or more removed, that individual is adviced to have them buried. In Islam it is recommended for a Muslim to bury anything that is being removed from a livingthing e.g nails, blood, hair and also teeth is not an exception. scholars concur that it is the habitual practice of the Muhammad (SAW).

How to approach girls you are attracted to when it is your first time.

Working up the courage to talk to new people especially girls, For men can be a huge and terrifying challenge. It’s even harder when the person you want to approach is a cute girl that you’re dying to spark up a conversation with, hoping to earn a date. Luckily, though, there are ways you can drastically increase your chances of making a great impression and reduce your fear of rejection.  *Look for Go Signals/Greenlight Before you worry about what you are going to say or do to approach girls, you first need to understand when you should approach them. Oftentimes, timing can mean the difference between being ignored and winning a date.  Here are some examples of when you should and shouldn’t approach a girl: °Do approach a girl if she is sitting/standing and looks relaxed. NIGERIA HOUSE OF REPS CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION ON THE COUPS IN WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES

The House of Representatives yesterday condemned the resurgence of military coups in West African and called for urgent actions. This followed a motion by Rep. Julius Ihonvbere who recalled that there had been at least four coups in the sub-region in the last six months alone with the most recent cases in Burkina Faso and Mali. “These coups violate the constitutional rights of the people and subvert democratic processes, as they can erode the achievements so far recorded in rebuilding good governance across the sub-region”, he stated.

NATURE OF LEARNING

Learning occupies a very important place in our life. Most of what we do or do not is influenced by what we learn and how we learn. Learning, therefore, provides a key to the structure of our personality and behavior. An individual starts learning immediately after his birth or in a strict sense even earlier in the womb of the mother.   Experience direct or indirect is found to play a dominant role in moulding and shaping the behavior of the individual from the very beginning. When he touches a burning matchstick the child gets burnt, and next time, when he comes across the burning matchstick, he loses no time in withdrawing from it. He learns to avoid not only the burning matchstick but also all burning things. When this happens we say that the child has learned that if one touches a flame, one gets burnt.  However, this term has not always been interpreted in the Same way by the numerous thinkers and psychologists as may be seen from the following definitions: Gardner Murphy (1986)

HOW TO BE A GOOD PARENT

Being a parent can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of your life, but that doesn't mean it's easy. No matter what age your children are, your work is never done. To be a good parent, you have to balance making your child feel loved while still helping them learn the difference between right and wrong. Even when it's hard, just keep doing your best to create a nurturing environment where your children can develop into confident, independent, and caring people. 1. GIVE YOUR CHILD PLENTY OF AFFECTION .Make an effort to create a strong physical and emotional bond with your child throughout their entire childhood. A warm touch or a kind word can let your child know how much you really care about them.  * Here are some ways to show love and affection: Give your child a cuddle, a kiss on the cheek, big hug, or even just a warm touch on their shoulder to show encouragement and appreciation. Tell them you love them every day, even if you're upset with the

HOW TO STOP NOSEBLEED

Why Is My Nose Bleeding? Several things can trigger a nose to bleed. The most common cause is dry air, either from having the heat on in winter or being in a hot, low-humidity climate. Other causes include: Picking your nose Blowing your nose too hard often Injuries caused by a fall or getting hit in your nose Side effects of medication, like blood thinners Allergies High altitudes, where the air is thin How Do I Stop My Nosebleed? Nosebleeds usually aren’t serious. You can treat most by yourself at home by doing the following: Stay calm. If you start to get nervous, it can actually make you bleed more. Try to relax. Sit up, don’t lie down. Keep your head above your heart. Lean a little bit forward. This keeps the blood from draining down the back of your throat. Pinch your nostrils closed. Use your thumb and index finger to hold your nostrils closed for 5 to 10 minutes while you breathe through your mouth. This puts pressure on the part of your nose that’s bleeding and can make the

Expect A Decision On Petrol Subsidy In June, NEC Tells Nigerians

The National Economic Council (NEC) has said any decision on the removal of petrol subsidy will be taken in June when the provision for its payment in the 2022 budget expires. The NEC said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited must be run differently since it is now an limited liability company. Abdulsalami: Petrol price increase will push more Nigerians into poverty Fuel price may rise in weeks as NEC recommends N302 per litre The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdulahi Sule, provided the information Thursday, while responding to questions from State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said it was understandable that the provision for the payment of the subsidy is made in the 2022 budget only until June. Governor Sule, who was joined at the post-NEC press briefing by his Edo state counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, said the National Economic Council was yet to take a positio

Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) on pump price.

Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd) has warned against increasing petrol prices at the pump. Nigerians are about to pay more for gasoline, thanks to the National Economic Council’s (NEC) proposal that the pump price is set at N302 per litre. However, the former Head of State warned against such a step during the 19th Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja. NEC, chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, made the recommendation in November 2021. This is reportedly part of government’s plan to fully deregulate the prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and eliminate monthly subsidy payments with provisions to ensure fair competition in the market. Over 18 million Nigerians are still caught up in needless poverty. All of these tend to have negative effects on security. In fact, Nigeria now faces a full security crisis that is confounded by the COVID-19 global pandemic and the banditry in many states in Northern Nigeria. “Most of these have disrupted the final value change across
